WEEL's Board Sets
1999 Legislative Agenda
by Cheryl Ek

In November, WEEL's Board Members worked hard during a two day Board retreat.  Kate Cholewa of the Montana Women's Lobby presented an excellent workshop.  This training proved invaluable to the board in establishing WEEL's legislative platform.  Last year, WEEL members were so
effective at educating policy makers and testifying during public hearings that our voice has now been sought out.   We want to continue our public policy track record by participating in on-going legislative analysis and action.  Due to our limited resources we want to stay focused on the issues that are
important to you, our members.  The Board decided WEEL will work on issues that affect low-income families in the state of Montana and developed a legislative platform.  Issues for this session
include, the Child Health Insurance Program, Child Support Assurance, Unemployment Insurance for recipients and the continued funding of FAIM.
In addition, WEEL is working with Tom Facey,
Missoula (D) to file a bill which will address punitive sanctioning of welfare recipients in Montana.
