On December 10, 1948, the General Assembly
of the United Nations adopted the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights. This powerful and sensitive document was a heartfelt
response to the devastation and dehumanization of the preceding world war which shocked
the world.
On December 10, 1998, 70 activists & welfare moms gathered
in our state capitol for a rally and protest. This event was in honor of the 50th
anniversary of the signing of the declaration, in full recognition of the innate dignity
and worth of
every human person. The dehumanization of poor people, and particularly those
on FAIM, cannot be tolerated. So we challenged the governor to
address these problems. Montana departmental sanctions are a clear violation of the
declaration.

himself and his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care, necessary
social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness,
